Six months on since Glacier Media purchased Castanet and SOFT 103.9FM, the group’s community media division has stronger regional digital reach than ever.
Since launching in November 2000, Castanet has become one of the most visited media websites in Western Canada. Every week over 450,000 people visit Castanet for news, classifieds, weather and entertainment. Castanet's head office is located in downtown Kelowna, British Columbia.
Castanet's growth and market position, as well as the growth of Glacier Digital Media's operations, is illustrating that a long-term digital business model exists in community media with attractive growth in audience, revenue and profitability.
Castanet is best known for news coverage. Over 180,000 people living in Kelowna and the surrounding area read over 30 pages per week. Castanet offers excellent local, provincial, national and international news.
"Since Castanet began 18 years ago, we've seen a lot of growth and expansion, with offices in Vernon, Penticton, FM radio and with our new building in Kelowna," said Castanet founder Nick Frost at the time of the purchase in April 2019. “So, now, it is time to keep Castanet growing."
Castanet also has a robust classifieds business. Its classifieds pages receive more than 600,000 page views per day and more than 25,000 unique visitors, making it the largest classifieds site in the Okanagan Valley.
Castanet also features Business, Sports, Weather and Entertainment. Visit: www.castanet.net.
