Estevan Mercury Publications is seeking a reporter who can contribute to our two weekly community newspapers in Estevan, Saskatchewan, as well as to contribute to our busy website at www.estevanmercury.ca.
The Estevan Mercury is one of Saskatchewan’s oldest and most respected weekly newspapers. It is a broadsheet paper published each Wednesday, and distributed to all residences in Estevan and to some rural homes.
Southeast Lifestyles, which emphasizes human interest and community stories, is a tabloid paper delivered on Fridays to all homes in Estevan and to numerous rural communities in the southeast region.
Both papers are well-known for handling a variety of stories.
Our website is updated several times per day, and consistently ranks at or near the top of the list for the most-viewed weekly newspaper websites in Saskatchewan. Most of the copy from each paper is posted to our website, and there are stories exclusive to the website as well.
The Mercury’s website boasts stories, videos, photo albums and other content to showcase a reporter’s digital knowledge.
The successful applicant will write 10-15 stories per week between the two papers and contribute to our website. This person will be able to find stories in the community and accept assignments from the editor, interview sources, take photos, cover breaking news and supply content for special sections.
The successful candidate will also have a keen interest in social media.
Estevan has many stories to report on throughout the year in education, healthcare, politics, law enforcement, arts and culture, agriculture, sports and much more.
We are also open to ideas to enhance the experience of our editorial staff, and to improve our papers and our website.
Estevan Mercury Publications is owned by the Glacier Media Corp., and is part of the Prairie Newspaper Group.
