Environmental Risk Information Services (ERIS) is North America’s provider of property-related environmental risk information. ERIS delivers accurate, affordable, on-demand research services for property related data and reference materials. The ERIS system systematically searches millions of current and historical environmental records to identify potential environmental threats on properties in Canada and the United States.

Position Overview:

ERIS has an immediate opening for an Oracle Database Administrator. The successful applicant will join our dynamic technical team. This position is a full-time position starting immediately, working 35 hours per week in our Toronto office.

Specific Responsibilities and Daily Tasks:

  • Responsible for the deployment, development, enhancement, support and maintenance of databases within our Enterprise application
  • Adhere to best practices for database design, performance, and security, including user management and database access
  • Optimize and improve data and system security through encryption and other emerging technologies
  • Maintain database health through regular monitoring of database usage and perform tuning
  • Monitor database performance and provide advance alerts and support application development team during database crisis
  • Architect any database updates and plan/implement all major DB upgrade
  • Ensure the data integrity of the platform by optimizing and testing backups
  • Build and maintain database failover/business continuity plan and ensure data sync between databases to support 24x7 DB availability
  • Build and maintain database disaster recovery plan and related documentation
  • Work with Corporate IT Services group all Server maintenance, upgrades, support
  • Develops/improves database standards in order to provide optimum maintenance and consistency across applications
  • Research technical problems, analyze business requirements, evaluate alternative design approaches, and design technical processes to meet business requirements
  • Participate in project and team meetings - interacting and collaborating with team members and other departments as appropriate
  • Collaborate with team to develop new, and optimize existing SQL code to ensure optimal application performance and a positive-end user experience
  • Create technical documentation of implementation activities for management and other team members
  • Provides database technical support and mentoring to other team members in order to foster professional development
  • Provide guidance, support and reporting with other management members
  • Assist in some Oracle PL/SQL development if needed
  • The ability to work evenings and weekends as required

Knowledge & Educational Requirements:

  • University/College degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or related discipline
  • 6+ years of technical working experience as an Oracle DBA in the most recent Oracle versions
  • Advanced experience in database server monitoring and alerts
  • Database performance tuning experience including troubleshooting complex SQL procedures and query optimization
  • Experience with web-based client applications and enterprise deployment strategies (load balancing and high availability installs)
  • Previous hands-on technical working experience with, Oracle Application Server 12c
  • Oracle Access Manager 12c, Oracle Forms
  • Oracle Reports
  • Oracle Database 12c/18c/19c is a must
  • Some in-depth knowledge of design and analysis methodology and application development processes from both a Business and IT perspective
  • Solid understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Quality Assurance (QA) requirements
  • Proficiency using MS Office Products
  • Knowledge of Oracle spatial data
  • Knowledge of SQL Server platforms
  • Experience administering an Oracle Geodatabase in an SDE schema
