The Kamsack Times was formed in 1908 and is part of the Glacier Media Group. You will be joining a small newsroom based in Kamsack — a community of 1,700+ residents in the beautiful Assiniboine River Valley. Kamsack boasts a rich cultural heritage of our First Nations, Doukhobor and Russian communities. With a scenic backdrop of rolling hills, forests and farmland, we’re known to be a playground for snowmobilers and cross-country skiers in the winter and hikers and golfers in the summer. You’ll quickly come to realize why we’re dubbed the Garden of Saskatchewan.  

We are looking for a talented Multi-Media Reporter to join our team.

The successful candidate will join our newsroom as a reporter focusing on covering the community of Kamsack, as well as those of the Coté and Keeseekoose First Nations in Saskatchewan’s Assiniboine River Valley.

Since 1908, our publication has provided comprehensive coverage of news, sports and events in this community once a week in print and daily online on sasktoday.ca, our provincial news website.

While text articles are the primary format, as a reporter at the Kamsack Times, you will embrace digital platforms and have opportunities to produce photo, video and/or audio reporting.

Requirements:

  • Pitching, reporting and editing local and regional articles for daily digital publication
  • Ability to handle and turnaround breaking news, as well as longer-format features
  • Ability to take photos that are eye-catching, clear and engaging to be shared in your articles and on social media
  • Ability to work efficiently, in a deadline-driven environment, both independently and constructively in collaboration with a wider team when required
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn audience engagement concepts, including social media storytelling and SEO
  • Knowledge of Canadian Press style
  • A driver’s license is required
  • A journalism degree, diploma or equivalent experience

.Skills and qualifications that are considered an asset:

  • Lived experience of life in northeast Saskatchewan or similar communities
  • Video skills, including shooting and editing
  • Social media skills, including repackaging and optimizing content for different social platforms

About the position:

  • Benefits: Medical and dental, three weeks’ vacation and statutory holidays, use of company car for assignments
  • Position: This is a temporary position until Dec. 12, 2022
  • Shifts: Please note that while this is a Monday-Friday position, some weekend and evening reporting may be required
  • Training: Glacier Media Group highly values ongoing training and skills development, including professional development
