The Delta Optimist is seeking an experienced multimedia reporter to cover a three-month leave of absence.

You are passionate about news and local politics and have excellent news judgment and a sense of what makes a compelling story. You seek to engage and inform your community in print and online platforms, including social media channels. You are self-motivated, efficient and deadline-driven who works equally well as a self-starter and as part of a larger team.

What you’ll do:

  • Source, report and write local news stories for the web and print
  • React quickly to breaking news and ensure that our coverage is correct, fair and best
  • Take photos that are eye-catching, clear and engaging
  • Assist in copy-editing and proofreading for both online and print editions, as needed
  • Create compelling social media posts across channels to promote your article


  • A journalism degree, diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of CP style.
  • Proficiency in digital photography.
  • Must be willing and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A reliable car and a valid driver’s license are essential.
