We are seeking a creative multi-platform storyteller with exceptional video shooting and editing skills to tell stories that impact the lives of New Westminster and Burnaby residents.

Working with the New West Record and Burnaby Now teams under the direction of the Editor or delegate, multimedia reporters are enthusiastic self-starters and team players who have a good sense for stories that resonate. They’re able to source and write articles that are clear, concise and compelling. They’re fluent in digital platforms and use them to better connect and engage with our communities.

What we’re looking for:

  • A candidate who can adhere to deadlines and take direction, while also contributing original story ideas.
  • A candidate with the ability to foster and maintain contacts with sources over a range of stories, issues and events.
  • A candidate who can develop a shot list and sequences needed to tell a visual story.
  • A candidate who can prepare, set up and operate video cameras and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal audio, video, lighting and technical quality.
  • A candidate who can edit recorded video and can discern the ideal length, order and sequencing of the final product.
  • A candidate who can prepare and write scripts and headlines, as well as perform both on-camera and voice-over work.
  • A candidate who can write clearly and concisely for digital platforms.
  • A candidate with an understanding of audience engagement strategies, including social, SEO and user-generated content.
  • A valid driver’s license and motor vehicle are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pitching, reporting and writing breaking,local articles with accompanying videos or standalone videos, including explainers and evergreen content
  • Assisting New West and Burnaby Record newsroom staff with editing videos to accompany their stories
  • Assist Glacier Media’s central digital team in implementing multimedia social strategies across the New West Record newsroom, including creating multimedia social posts across channels—including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok
  • Monitor Google Trends, Crowdtangle and other tools to identify potential stories for coverage


  • A journalism degree, diploma
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn audience engagement concepts, including social media storytelling and SEO.
  • Proficiency in digital photography.
  • Knowledge of CP style.
  • Ability to work efficiently, in a deadline-driven environment, both independently and constructively in collaboration with a wider team when required.
