Glacier Media, one of Western Canada’s leading community news publishers, has two exciting opportunities for journalists in its operations in Saskatchewan. These positions are funded by the federal government’s new Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) from Jan. 1, 2020 through March 31, 2021 with the possibility of extension.
The positions include:
- Regional Municipal Affairs Reporter, Northern Saskatchewan (based in Battleford)
- Regional Justice System Reporter, Northern Saskatchewan (based in Battleford)
- Regional Provincial Affairs Reporter, Saskatchewan (based in Regina)
The ideal candidates are meticulous, detail-oriented reporters with the capacity to develop deep knowledge of their beats and an extensive network of sources while writing coverage for multiple community news outlets. Those covering courts will need to bring or quickly develop knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Rules of Court and the laws governing libel in their coverage areas. Travel between multiple communities will be required in most cases.
Candidates will possess the ability to work independently and as part of a larger remote team and be able to work under tight deadlines.
Preference will be given to people with post-secondary journalism education or the equivalent in experience.
