Executive Leadership

Jonathon J.L. Kennedy

President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Kennedy oversees all aspects of Glacier’s business information and community media assets. He is a graduate of Harvard University, where he earned both undergraduate and Masters of Business Administration degrees. He is based in Vancouver.

Mark Melville

President, Glacier Business Information

Mr. Melville leads Glacier's efforts in acquisitions, divestitures and partnerships. He also has operational responsibility over some of Glacier's business information units. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Mr. Melville holds two master’s degrees from Harvard University: an MBA and an MPA. He is based in Vancouver.

Craig Roberts

Executive Vice-President, Business Information

Mr. Roberts works closely with the leaders of Glacier's various business information units, including special projects and corporate development activities. Mr. Roberts holds MBA degrees from Cornell and Queen's universities, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree from Queen's. He also holds CPA and CMA designations.

Peter Kvarnstrom

President, Community Media

Mr. Kvarnstrom oversees Glacier's community media group, includes a variety of print and digital newspapers – dailies, weeklies and related services – across Western Canada. Mr Kvarnstrom is an active leader in a variety of publishing industry groups. Mr. Kvarnstrom is a graduate of Simon Fraser University. He is based in Vancouver.

Orest Smysnuik

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Smysnuik oversees Glacier's financial and business operations, and is also responsible for the information technology and human resources portfolios. Mr. Smysnuik is a Chartered Accountant and a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan. He is based in Vancouver.

Sam Grippo

Chairman

Mr. Grippo is Chairman of Glacier Media Group and has a wealth of experience in Canada’s printing and publishing industries. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Mr. Grippo worked with Arthur Andersen & Co. before founding the Madison Group of Companies in 1976 with a portfolio of real estate investments and the acquisition of Armature Electric Co.

Mr. Grippo and his partners built Madison into a large diversified company with operations in printing & publishing, real estate, service & distribution of industrial products, telecommunications and a variety of other investments.

Mr. Grippo has overseen the growth of Glacier into a diversified, publicly-traded media company. He continues to focus on driving investment in quality products and talented staff, and in the maintenance of a consistent and high annual return on investment through long-term growth strategies.

Bruce Aunger CA

Director

Mr. Aunger is a director of Glacier Media Group and Chair of its Audit Committee. A Chartered Accountant and graduate of Simon Fraser University, Mr. Aunger is Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Madison Pacific Properties. Previously, Mr. Aunger worked with Arthur Andersen & Co. as a partner specializing in taxation financing and related matters and was in charge of the Vancouver mergers & acquisitions practice. He advised a wide variety of major Canadian and international clients. Mr. Aunger joined Madison in 1988 and is responsible for all corporate finance functions. In his role as Executive Vice-President, Mr. Aunger plays an integral part in developing and executing business and investment strategies of the Madison Group.

Director

Mr. McKinnon is President, CEO and sole shareholder of Norscot Investments Ltd., a privately held company with interests in media and residential/commercial real estate developments in Washington, British Columbia and Alberta. Mr. McKinnon has extensive executive and senior management leadership experience, governance and executive compensation expertise. He has particular expertise in strategy and operations.

He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Okanagan Skeena Ltd., a radio broadcasting and cable television business, and President and CEO of Nornet Broadcasting Ltd. and Central Island Broadcasting Ltd., both radio broadcasting businesses. Mr. McKinnon also served as the sole outside director of Castanet Media Ltd. for 18 years. Castanet.net is the leading source of news and community information in the Okanagan of B.C.

Simon Bray

President, REW.ca

As President of REW, Mr. Bray oversees the company’s operations including strategy, development, marketing and sales.  Mr. Bray is a seasoned real estate technology professional with over 10 years of experience in the industry. Prior to joining REW, he was CEO Marketplaces of Spain-based LIFULL Connect and has also held executive positions at other global real estate portals, as GM Real Estate, Mitula Group and CEO of South African-based Private Property.  He is based in Vancouver, Canada.

 

Anthony Vaccaro

Group Publisher, The Northern Miner Group

As Group Publisher of The Northern Miner Group, Mr. Vaccaro has overall responsibility for some of the mining industry's most distinguished media brands including The Northern Miner, Canadian Mining Journal and Mines Handbook. Mr. Vaccaro holds the CFA designation, has an MBA in Investment Management and is a board member of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame. He is based in Toronto, Canada.

Bob Willcox

President, Glacier FarmMedia

As President of Glacier FarmMedia, Mr. Willcox is responsible for the strategic direction of the group, including its expanded online presence, while ensuring the continued strong identity of each of its brands, most of which have strong and deep roots in the Canadian agricultural community. The group now has print and online properties serving every province. Mr. Willcox has spent most of his career in the Canadian publishing industry. He is based in Winnipeg, Canada.

Carol Le Noury

President, Environmental Risk Information Services (ERIS)

As President of Environmental Risk Information Services, Mrs. Le Noury oversees the strategic direction of the ERIS group within the United States and Canadian markets. The group’s environmental database and historical products are used to complete commercial property risk assessments. Mrs. Le Noury also has an extensive executive background within the North American trade and consumer events industry. She is a graduate of the British Columbia Institute of Technology and is based in Toronto, Canada.

Gail Ankiewicz

President, Specialty Technical Publishers

As President of Specialty Technical Publishers, Gail Ankiewicz oversees the group’s environmental health, safety compliance and auditing division, and has managed STP’s transition from paper-based products to full online publishing, as well as its software partner relationships and integrations. She is a graduate in Food and Clothing Technology from Durban University of Technology in South Africa. She is based in Vancouver, Canada.

Alvin Brouwer

President, Lower Mainland Publishing LP and Glacier Community Media Digital

As President of Lower Mainland Publishing LP and Glacier Community Media Digital, Mr. Brouwer is responsible for Glacier’s community media assets in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. The group includes newspapers and corresponding websites in Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, Tri Cities, New Westminster, Richmond, Delta and Bowen Island. Mr. Brouwer is responsible for digital strategy and operations for the community media group. He also oversees Business in Vancouver Media Group, which is comprised of a weekly newspaper and website, a range of B2B magazine titles, various business events, a live news radio show and weekly podcasts. He is based in Vancouver, Canada.
