Executive Leadership

Jonathon J.L. Kennedy

President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Kennedy oversees all aspects of Glacier’s business information and community media assets. He is a graduate of Harvard University, where he earned both undergraduate and Masters of Business Administration degrees. He is based in Vancouver.

Mark Melville

President, Glacier Business Information

Mr. Melville leads Glacier's efforts in acquisitions, divestitures and partnerships. He also has operational responsibility over some of Glacier's business information units. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Mr. Melville holds two master’s degrees from Harvard University: an MBA and an MPA. He is based in Vancouver.

Bill Whitelaw

Executive Vice-President, Business Information

Mr. Whitelaw looks after a variety of Glacier's business information units, as well as directly overseeing its energy portfolio of products and services. A graduate of Loyalist College and Queen’s University, he also holds a Master’s degree in communications studies from the University of Calgary. He is based in Calgary.

Peter Kvarnstrom

President, Community Media

Mr. Kvarnstrom oversees Glacier's community media group, includes a variety of print and digital newspapers – dailies, weeklies and related services – across Western Canada. Mr Kvarnstrom is an active leader in a variety of publishing industry groups. Mr. Kvarnstrom is a graduate of Simon Fraser University. He is based in Vancouver.

Orest Smysnuik

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Smysnuik oversees Glacier's financial and business operations, and is also responsible for the information technology and human resources portfolios. Mr. Smysnuik is a Chartered Accountant and a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan. He is based in Vancouver.

Sam Grippo

Chairman

Mr. Grippo is Chairman of Glacier Media Group and has a wealth of experience in Canada’s printing and publishing industries. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Mr. Grippo worked with Arthur Andersen & Co. before founding the Madison Group of Companies in 1976 with a portfolio of real estate investments and the acquisition of Armature Electric Co.

Mr. Grippo and his partners built Madison into a large diversified company with operations in printing & publishing, real estate, service & distribution of industrial products, telecommunications and a variety of other investments.

Mr. Grippo has overseen the growth of Glacier into a diversified, publicly-traded media company. He continues to focus on driving investment in quality products and talented staff, and in the maintenance of a consistent and high annual return on investment through long-term growth strategies.

Bruce Aunger CA

Director

Mr. Aunger is a director of Glacier Media Group and Chair of its Audit Committee. A Chartered Accountant and graduate of Simon Fraser University, Mr. Aunger is Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Madison Pacific Properties. Previously, Mr. Aunger worked with Arthur Andersen & Co. as a partner specializing in taxation financing and related matters and was in charge of the Vancouver mergers & acquisitions practice. He advised a wide variety of major Canadian and international clients. Mr. Aunger joined Madison in 1988 and is responsible for all corporate finance functions. In his role as Executive Vice-President, Mr. Aunger plays an integral part in developing and executing business and investment strategies of the Madison Group.

Chris Heming

Director

Mr. Heming immigrated to Canada in 1980. In 1982 he worked for CCH where he gained his experience in the publishing arena. He continued his career in management for a division of Carswell before founding his own publishing company, STP Specialty Technical Publishers in 1986. STP specialized primarily in Environmental Publishing before growing into a multi-faceted technical publishing company. In 1999 Glacier Media purchased his company.

Mr. Heming was educated in South Africa where he studied history at The University Of The Witwatersrand and lived in England for several years before his arrival in Canada.

Tim McElvaine

Mr. McElvaine is President of McElvaine Investment Management Ltd., an investment management firm he founded in 1996. Mr. McElvaine is both a CA and CFA and his employment history has included Touche Ross, Bank of NT Butterfield and Cundill Investment Research where he was Chief Investment Officer from 1998 to 2003. Mr. McElvaine is currently a director of Rainmaker Entertainment Inc. and has served on the boards of Sun-Rype Products Ltd. and Humpty Dumpty Snack Foods Inc.

As President of Inceptus Media, Dr. Robert has overall responsibility for the products and services of the digital agency and media brand AMEDEAmd. Dr. Robert holds a PhD. in Education, a Master in Educational Technology and a Bachelor in Communication. He is based in Montreal, Canada.

Bob Willcox

President, Glacier FarmMedia

As President of Glacier FarmMedia, Mr. Willcox is responsible for the strategic direction of the group, including its expanded online presence, while ensuring the continued strong identity of each of its brands, most of which have strong and deep roots in the Canadian agricultural community. The group now has print and online properties serving every province. Mr. Willcox has spent most of his career in the Canadian publishing industry. He is based in Winnipeg, Canada.

Andy Robertson

Executive Chairman and CEO, InfoMine

As Executive Chairman and CEO of InfoMine, Dr. Robertson is responsible for the overall vision and strategy of InfoMine's products and services for mining. Dr. Robertson co-founded InfoMine and other leading mining service companies, including Robertson GeoConsultants, Steffen Robertson & Kirsten (now SRK) and Gemcom Software (now Dassault Systèmes). He holds a B.Sc., Ph.D. and P.Eng. and is based in Vancouver, Canada.

Anthony Vaccaro

Group Publisher, The Northern Miner Group

As Group Publisher of The Northern Miner Group, Mr. Vaccaro has overall responsibility for some of the mining industry's most distinguished media brands including The Northern Miner, Canadian Mining Journal and Mines Handbook. Mr. Vaccaro holds the CFA designation, has an MBA in Investment Management and is a board member of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame. He is based in Toronto, Canada.

Alvin Brouwer

President, Lower Mainland Publishing LP

As President of Lower Mainland Publishing LP and Glacier Community Media Digital, Mr. Brouwer is responsible for Glacier’s community media assets in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada.  The group includes newspapers and corresponding websites in Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, Tri Cities, New Westminster, Richmond, Delta and Bowen Island. Alvin is also responsible for digital strategy and operations for the community media group. He is based in Vancouver, Canada.

Sue Belisle

President & Publisher, Business In Vancouver Media Group

As President & Publisher of Business In Vancouver Media Group, Ms. Belisle oversees the strategic direction of the group, which is comprised of a weekly newspaper and website, 20 magazine titles, a range of business events, a live news radio show and weekly podcasts. She has more than 25 years experience in the media industry in British Columbia, Canada and the United States. Ms. Belisle is a director and executive member of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade. She is based in Vancouver.

Carol Le Noury

President, Environmental Risk Information Services Ltd. (ERIS)

As President of Environmental Risk Information Services Ltd., Mrs. Le Noury oversees the strategic direction of the ERIS group within the United States and Canadian markets. The group’s environmental database and historical products are used to complete commercial property risk assessments. Mrs. Le Noury also has an extensive executive background within the North American trade and consumer events industry. She is a graduate of the British Columbia Institute of Technology and is based in Toronto, Canada.

Steve Britten

President, Specialty Technical Publishers (STP)

As President of Specialty Technical Publishers, Mr. Britten oversees the group’s environmental health, safety compliance and auditing division, and has managed STP’s transition from paper-based products to full online publishing. He is a graduate in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. He is based in Vancouver, Canada.

Ian Nichols

CEO, Weather INnovations Consulting LP

As founder and CEO of Weather INnovations Consulting (WIN), Mr. Nichols leads the creation and delivery of online decision support systems within the agricultural sector. WIN's agricultural advisory and environmental monitoring networks serve producers, governments, researchers, food processors and multi-national agri-businesses, primarily in Canada and Europe.
