Sundre Round Up
Located at the base of the Rocky Mountain Foothills on the banks Red Deer River, Sundre is a base for oil, gas, forestry and recreational activities. It is 40 kilometres west of Olds, 130 kilometres northwest of Calgary and 100 kilometres (62 miles) southwest of Red Deer.
The Bow Crow Forest Reserve — a haven for recreationalists and photographers — is a short drive west. It is here that the Forestry Trunk Road connects tourists to a wealth of experiences and adventures involving pristine lakes, tumbling waterfalls and abundant wildlife. There were a record 46 building starts in 2005 contributing $5,423,000 to the $6,207,000 in building permits.
The Sundre Round Up was established in 1960, and purchased by Great West Publishing in 2005, as part of a new publishing group called Mountain View Publishing Inc. It is a paid circulation newspaper serving Sundre and area with a circulation of 2,500. It is published by Mountain View Publishing which also publishes the Carstairs Courier, Didsbury Review, Innisfail Province, Mountain View Gazette, and the Olds Albertan.
