St. Paul Journal
The St. Paul Journal is a community weekly newspaper serving the town and county of St. Paul and surrounding area since 1924. St. Paul is strategically located in the centre of the northeast region and is a major trading centre for 35,000 people.
The labour force of St. Paul is predominantly employed in service occupations and the trade sector, followed by the construction and government sectors. Agriculture is the area’s mainstay but the oil and gas sector is also a major contributor to the area’s economy. Recent large scale developments include residential subdivisions, an expanded seniors retirement facility, two new schools and two large retail outlets – UFA and Sobeys. Canadian Tire opened its doors in St. Paul in early 2009.
Saddle Lake Cree Nation borders the County of St. Paul with its 5,000-plus residents accessing retail, education, health care and other services in St. Paul. The region hosts numerous cultural festivals, rodeos and agricultural fairs annually.
